Invisalign Basics

It is possible to have teeth straightened as adults. Many Suwanee adults worry about looking ridiculous or amateurish with braces and wish there was another way for them to achieve beautifully aligned teeth.

Invisalign products perform the same job as ordinary braces, but they are - as the name implies - invisible.

How does Invisalign work? Certified Suwanee dentists and orthodontists can prescribe and administrate Invisalign equipment to their patients.

During an initial consultation a dentist or orthodontist assesses whether the product will adequately address the extent of alignment needed.

If deemed appropriate the dentist will take impressions and photographs of the patient’s teeth, and send them to the Invisalign manufacturing department operated by the company’s founding group, Align Technologies. The Invisalign laboratory then manufactures anything between twenty and thirty aligning devices for the patient, using state of the art computer software. Each aligning unit is designed to incrementally alter the position of the patient’s teeth .25 to .33 millimeters each session and is to be changed every two weeks. The dentist or orthodontist retains the bulk of the aligners, and will dispense the next two aligners to the patient after reassessment.

It is essential that the treatment is applied by a dentist or orthodontist qualified to use Invisalign devices, and to meticulously followed by the dental practitioner to ensure optimal results.

What if the Invisalign process is not deemed appropriate for a patient? The traditional orthodontic products are still available for use in treatment, including the metal and wire braces which may be necessary for severe cases of misalignment or dental problems.

A Suwanee dentist or orthodontist is ultimately the best judge of any dental condition and the optimal method of treatment to be followed.
